  1. I discovered this website today and have just listened to my first podcast. It was a very entertaining 45 minutes on an otherwise dull Sunday afternoon. The presenters are widely-read and knowledgeable, bringing interesting insights to the two books reviewed. The sound quality was excellent and the delivery polished. I thought it was a good idea to contrast books of different styles, one a 'literary' collection of stories and the other a novel that, ultimately, one of the presenters thought was 'absolute rubbish'. While it's hard to knock a novel that has apparently sold 6 million copies, to the question how this could be, the answer may lie in the quote from the American journalist H.L.Mencken along the lines of: "No one ever lost money underestimating the taste of the public." I couldn't agree more about the use of exclamation marks in prose! Far too many of them!! The final quote of the piece made me laugh and inspired me to post this comment!!!

  2. I stumbled on this podcast two years after it was first broadcast (not sure if anyone is still administering this page) but if so wanted to comment on the shopaholic book. I'm one of Kinsella's millions of readers. I read the first Shopaholic book on a Hawaiian vacation years ago and for some reason I have kept reading each subsequent book (maybe I'm trying to see where this finally all goes or If the protagonist exhibits any growth). This review is the first time I've heard someone call out Rebecca for what she is (nuts, unlikeable and not charming) so much so you wonder what exactly is the attraction with the relatively sane husband. Anyhow, refreshing to see I wasn't alone! I voiced my comments on a separate site and was lambasted (hardcore Rebecca fans I guess).
