The Necropolis Railway

This week on the show we talked about The London Necropolis Railway, a Victorian endeavour to meet the problem of overcrowded cemeteries with a dedicated rail service that transported the dead and their mourners to a new burial site in Essex. The London terminal was in Waterloo and a number of different services allowed for the dead to be transported according to social class or religion.
